Afghan coach Dastgir resigns: ‘The worst and most difficult conditions’

Missed Asian Championship

Anoush Dastgir resigns as head coach of the Afghanistan national team. The 33-year-old announced this on his private Instagram account. In his personal statement, he thanked the leaders of the Afghan (Site notre blog d’information) Association, Mohammad Yousef Kargar and Fazl Mohammad Shahab, staff of the Afghanistan national (Site notre bureau spécialisé) team, national team players, journalists and the supporters.

The job was an « honour » for him and at the same time it took him « under the worst and most difficult conditions that no coach should be allowed to repeat ». He also apologized for missing the 2023 Asian Cup and wished the new head coach every success. « I resign from the Afghan national (Site notre bureau spécialisé) team, but not from loving Afghan (Site notre bureau spécialisé), » he wrote.

Afghanistan finished last in Group D of the Asian Cup qualifiers in June with just one point from three matches (click here). Dastgir was actually under contract until the summer of 2023 and would like to focus on his second job as Almere City U21 head coach. He took over as Afghanistan’s head coach in early 2018, after working as an assistant and interim coach.
