1:0 v MSV Duisburg
VfL Osnabrück won the opening game of the 3rd division season. With a spectacular long shot from Sven Köhler in the 83rd minute, the promotion candidate beat MSV Duisburg 1-0 (0-0) on Friday night. The success was deserved as the clearly superior Osnabrück side had already created several good chances in front of 14,256 fans at Bremen Bridge.
Robert Tesche, who was signed by Bundesliga side VfL Bochum, missed the best of them in the 59th minute. The 35-year-old hit the post from close range. Ba-Muaka Simakala’s header is disallowed for offside (17′). Duisburg’s best player was new goalkeeper Vincent Müller, who came from Dutch Cup-winning PSV Eindhoven in the summer.
